Look what I made, guys. I haven’t decided what my lavender bird is called or even if it’s a ‘he’ or a ‘she’. I’m too bleary-eyed, having only got in at 1am from my first ever sewing group!
A new neighbour moved into our street recently and this week she was lovely enough to launch her first ever sewing group, held at her house. My new friend designs fabric prints for a living – how cool is that? She’d downloaded a simple pattern, bought fabric from Beyond Fabrics and placed out all her wonderful sewing equipment:
The wine glass was a very important piece of equipment.
Six of us settled down to an evening of chatting, eating, drinking – and sewing! I loved every moment, and it didn’t matter how polished our items were, it was all about the fun of it all. I must say, when the room was heavy with the scent of lavender and we were drinking G&Ts, this was about as close to heaven as I am likely to get without sprouting wings.
My neighbour had a beautiful sewing roll that her mother had made for her. It was pulled together from scraps of fabric that had once been her childhood bedroom curtains and was appliqued with her old school name tags and swimming badges. There was a little zipped section, a needle holder, lots of little pockets. Oh, and it was beautifully made. Now I really want a sewing roll!
Let me know if you have any name suggestions for my little lavender bird! Oh, and I thoroughly recommend that you set up a sewing group in your area. My neighbour had obviously put a lot of work in, bless her, but it was totally worth it. Hurrah!
