Oh, the excitement! A reader recently contacted me. Catherine was having a clear out and did I want over 30 patterns to use on the blog? Did I?! I bit her hand off and waited eagerly for the parcel to arrive. I had no idea what it would contain – 30 patterns for dog jackets and doll dresses, or something more special?
It was something more special…
I have about 30 patterns here and four Burda magazines. Not all the patterns are vintage – some are more modern. I started thinking about how best to spread the pattern love and came up with the Pattern Pyramid. You know those horrible pyramid selling schemes from the Eighties? Well, this is the reverse – a pyramid construction for spreading pattern love around the world!
THE RULES
- Anyone, anywhere can enter the giveaway by posting a comment below by midnight GMT Friday 29 June BUT you must have an active blog. (Reasons to become obvious.)
- I will randomly select six winners.
- I will post a selection of approximately 5-6 patterns and/or Burda magazines to each winner, along with a generous number of hand woven labels to be sewn into anything made from one of these patterns.
- Each winner will pick one pattern to keep for themselves, then host their own giveaway. They will randomly select a winner, post the remaining patterns to that Person C. Person C will pick a pattern for themselves, host their own giveaway and post the remaining patterns to the winner, Person D. Person D will…
You get the idea!ย I’m really keen to see how far and wide we can spread the pattern love and I’m intrigued to see who ends up with what.
THE SMALL PRINT
- No way am I going through 30 patterns, ensuring that every pattern piece is there. This is pot luck!
- Please don’t email me for specifics on the ย 30+ patterns. ย Take your chance!
- Your selection of patterns will be picked at random, though I do promise to attempt a good variety of makes. Please don’t contact me asking for specific patterns.
- I will keep a couple of patterns for myself, because I deserve it.
- If you’re a winner, I would love it if you could make a small contribution toย The Brooke. This is a charity close to the heart of Catherine, who so generously provided these patterns.
Obviously, I’m operating on a huge level of trust – but I totally trust my readers. All I ask of participants is to engage in a timely fashion, launching their own giveaways soon after receiving a parcel. I also ask that you be happy to post patterns worldwide – we really want to spread the love! Once I send the patterns out, I’m not going to attempt to moderate further giveaways, but I’m curious to see how long this takes until the final patterns find loving homes. So please contact me with details of your win and where you live – I suspect another world map is essential! (Remember the World Map of Snoods?)
Finally, if you’re taking part or just want to spread the love, please feel free to add the below button to your blog’s sidebar. Let the fun commence!

But please explain – do we add a pattern before sending it on, to make for the “lost” one? Otherwise, some poor person will get no choice further down the line?
No, you don’t add anything. The giveaway has to end somewhere and someone will receive a single pattern. That’s okay, though! If they don’t like it they can … give it away!
I meant “make up for” the lost one!

I’m in – although my blog is just tiny, so hope that still counts. But I would love the challenge and fun of having a decision made (or pretty much) for me, as am hopeless when faced with the vast choice of things to make, which is why I get a bit stuck in a same pattern rut.
This is very clever and awfully nice of you. And how lucky we all are to have Catherine! This stash looks a treasure trove. I think the pot luck element could be quite funny!
Oooh! Sounds like fun! I’m in!

How great! Count me in ๐ I’ll post up on my blog about it soon.

Hey I was thinking of doing something like a pattern swap on my blog (very limited readership, however) to get rid of those patterns you love but know you will never use. I’d like to be in draw – great idea.
Just to add, I will also donate to the charity. When at Petra in Jordan years ago, I gave my lunch to the donkeys, much to the surprise of the poor (wealth wise) children as they (the donkeys – maybe the children too?)were so mistreated I couldn’t bear to see them. The ropes holding saddles on them had cut into their flesh and bleeding. I still think of it and so am glad to hear of a charity that helps these animals. Thanks.
This is genius Karen – so fun! Please count me in!
How brilliant – I’m in! It’s like those chain letters from when you’re a kid, but with prizes – way more fun!

Fantastic! What a generous idea. Count me in please.
I’d also love to join in! I love the idea of pot luck beacuase it often means that you end up with something that you might not have otherwise chosen and you really need to put your thinking cap on to figure out how to make it work for yourself ๐
totally adore this idea. Would love to be part of the love, I’m i Christchurch NZ
He, he, this would take me back! At least with this one I don’t have to choose people’s names… I might stand more chance to actually passing this on and getting somewhere. If you’re design skills are up to it, I agree, it would be great to have lines going from one place to t’other! Count me in!
