A Year In Review – The Movie Way

Long-term readers may remember my year in review from about this time last year. I focussed on the bloggers who’d kept me entertained for a whole 12 months, and awarded them Sewing Oscars. I thought I’d keep up the theme this year, and give it a slight twist. Not Oscars this time, film reviews. Who made me laugh, cry, and snort during 2012? Let’s start with…

Four Bloggers and a Baby!

PicMonkey Collage

What was in the water during 2012! Gorgeous pregnant tummies abound! As far as I’m aware, Stitch and Witter may already be cuddling her new baby, Casey’s Elegant Musings is looking impossibly glamorous as her belly grows cuter by the day. I’m still struggling to forgive Pincushion Treats for taking her pregnant belly all the way from London to San Francisco and, finally, when Liza Jane Sews isn’t making fantastic aprons, she’s making babies! I really can’t wait to meet all these new faces in 2013 and blow virtual raspberries on pudgy, dimpled bottoms. Who else is preggers? Anyone reading?

Grease, The Movie

I don’t drink (no)
Or swear (no)
I don’t rat my hair (eew)
I get ill from one cigaretteย
(cough, cough, cough)
Keep your filthy paws
Off my silky draws
Would you pull that crap with Annette?

This photo makes me think of the sleepover in Grease. Back in the Spring, Scruffy Badger made me roll around on the floor laughing, with her take on the Pyjama Party. If you don’t already read Scruffy Badger’s blog, you should. It’s all about the sewing – and the wigs.

Oonaballoona, International Woman of Mystery

I thought I knew everything I needed to about Oonballoona. She’s fabulous, obviously. She doesn’t like following rules. She’ll move from one State to the other, just to avoid meeting me. (When I wanted to meet in New York, she packed her case and hotfooted it to the west coast.) She lived in a purple house in California – or was that just the photoshopping? Then, in October she blew me away by revealing that she’s also an actress. A real, live actress! In real life! She learns lines and everything. This made my year. I had never seen, spoken or drank a cocktail with this talented lady, but I had read her blog. Hero worship, moi?

Weekend In Havana

What is it about Miss Demeanour that makes me think of Carmen Miranda…?

I absolutely love this woman. She’s brilliant fun, down-to-earth, kind, generous – and, might it be said, a tad eccentric! She’s also in love with Jarvis Cocker, as am I, which means we may have to fight over him one day. Unfortunately, Miss Demeanour is already winning the battle for the singer’s heart, having crocheted him a tie and handed it over in person. (True story!)

Of course, these aren’t the only people who’ve brought so much pleasure to my Google Reader. I love you all – group hug! I can hardly stand to read a newspaper or magazine these days. Traditional journalism feels soooo staid now, compared to the fluid, fast-moving and personal writing of blogs.

I can’t wait to see what you all get up to next year! Who’s kept you entertained over 2012?

With thanks to the bloggers featured, for borrowing their photos.

We should be thanking you for a year of great posts! So thank you Karen I’ve enjoyed reading your blog for almost 2 years I think! I’m a pregnant sewing blogger and I know of at least 2 more that you haven’t mentioned it’s funny as one is due 3 weeks after me, on the same date as my pregnant twin sister.
I have to say if I wasn’t pregnant, I’d be stealing Ella off you, she is so cute & looks like a lot of fun.

2012 really was the year of the pregnant sewing bloggers, wasn’t it?! Funny how it all seemed to happen at once. ๐Ÿ™‚

You were one of my inspirations this past year Karen! (I did a shout-out to your awesome online-community-building in one of my annual review posts here: http://macskakat.wordpress.com/2012/12/26/top-5-of-2012-inspirations-and-goals/) Your sew-alongs really help bring people together, and are so much fun to take part in! I’m keeping my fingers crossed you’ll be running another one (or two?) next year. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a lovely New Years! I’m looking forward to reading your blog through 2013 as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

There must be something in the water. Funny thing is, where I work there are NINE other pregnant teachers right now. I’m not sure what’s going on. I’m just super excited to meet this little bub soon!
And of course you deserve an oscar! You have fantastic sewalongs. And I love how you are not embarrassed to take a photo with a random on the street. Those photos are my favorite. Happy New Year!

what exquisite company, i am honored!!! oh, ruggy shall be ever so jealous.

it actually pains me to think of all our near misses. i’m glad my rabid emails full of caps and exclamation points and shady directions to dive bars have not put you off… when we eventually do meet, i plan to return the serenade, catch up on all the missed whiskey, and find the most epic stranger we can get to document the occasion.

thank you karen, you truly keep us all stitched together in so many ways!

  9. Lisette says:

How have I NEVER even seen your blog?! I’m throwing a small fit on my floor right now over having missed this pyjama party sew-along. Please, please, PLEASE tell me you’ll do another one this new year?! You’re officially going right into my blog roll ASAP.

  10. You have kept me amused all year, your take on Me Made June was awesome. I can’t forget your photo of you and Lurch at Kings Cross! Please host another Sewalong on 2013.

  11. Karen, you know you are my blog heroine, and that you draw such readers is due to your incorrigible blog presence. I am so truly proud to be featured ( blushing profusely) and love you to bits, please carry on being you and being inspirational xx

Oh my days what can I say darling lady. I am so, so touched to be included this post especially when I think of you being such a sewing blogger legend and all round good read. The sewalongs you’ve held this year have got me back on track when I’ve got kinda lost with what I was trying to achieve. I can’t wait to hear your stories in 2013 and hopefully feature in them too ๐Ÿ™‚

High five to you for being so very nice,

  13. Christine says:
