True Confessions – I Didn’t Expect THAT!

A few days ago, I was horizontal on the sofa, thoughts swirling around in a fog of festive Baileys drinking inertia. Sewing resolutions … jar … blog post? That’s about as far as my muddled thinking got and it’s a stroke of luck that I even managed to write something and press ‘Publish’.

I could never have imagined that by midnight GMT on 2 January we would have no less than 187 names to go into the Sewlutions jar! As I watched comment after comment come in, a classic line from Jaws kept springing to mind:

You’re gonna need a bigger boat. I mean, ahem, jar.

Of course, we actually have more names than that by now, and I’m not going to stop anyone from joining in the Sewlutions fun during 2013! But I shall stick to my original rule that only the people who left a comment before the deadline will have a chance of winning a prize in a year’s time. Fair’s fair. So if you left a comment any time after Claire of Errant Pear announced she’d sew a pair of jeans, I’m afraid you’re too late for a chance of the prize – but you’re still in on the fun!

Shivani of Pins & Needles has been kind enough to make us a blog button! So if you want to add this to the sidebar of your blog, the code is below:

<div align="center"><a href="" title="didyoumakethat"><img src="" alt="didyoumakethat" style="border:none;" /></a></div>

I hope this works!

There will, in time, be a photo of all 187 names in a jar. I just need to find a really big jar, and a quiet afternoon.

Thanks for such an enthusiastic reception to a spontaneous idea! Some people even volunteered to donate money to charity if they fail to meet their self-set commitments, and one reader suggested check-ins during the year. Yet again, people are taking the ball and running with it. Love it when that happens.

Now, get running!

LOL!! That is great! Thanks for giving me a reason to actually say my goal and try and make it happen. It had been playing over and over again and again in my mind.

  2. Darling Karen, I think most of us are in this for the fun not the prize anyway 🙂 You are so good at catlyzing us all into action! I’ve completed my first UFO, btw, at 5am this morning. Early morning sewing appears to be a contagious habit 😉

  3. sewbusylizzy says:

I hope the jar doesn’t take up too much of your sewing space!

  4. lisa g says:

haha! that’s awesome! can’t wait to see how everyone does.

  5. I think you’ve proved that we like to do things in groups because we know we have support and that we’ll encourage each other. Maybe if I drank more Baileys I’d come up with some good ideas, too. I wonder if that would work! Good luck with finding that big jar. 🙂

  6. Dorothy says:

Haha! Thanks Karen for a great idea. Why don’t you ask a chip shop if they have a pickled eggs jar they are getting rid of?

  7. Tilly says:

Brilliant stuff. Are you hand-writing them all out? Printing and cutting? Live blogging the whole process? x

  8. CGCouture says:

Woo-hoo! I made it in! If you weren’t so far away I’d lend you my gallon sun tea jar…

  9. BeaJay says:

Hey – the prize could be a button hole for all I care – I just think it a spectacular idea (as do so many others!). And I have one of my twelve items already completed!!!!

  10. Diane says:

Yikes! Now wondering what challenge is going to be set for me by you or your readers! And again I say yikes! I commit to doing whatever you decide is a reasonable beginner’s challenge. One last time – yikes!

  11. Mrs M says:

It was a great spontaneous idea! I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else makes.

I’m sorry I was late – my blogroll was busting at the seams!! lol ^_^ I’m still in – it’s such fun and I like a good challenge!! 😀

  13. Angela says:

You had a great idea – no wondered so many of us jumped in! I agree with Mrs. C – I doubt many of us are in it for the prize, I’m just excited to have an incentive to get moving! And, I’ve cut out a Renfrew and hope to start stitching today – no way am I falling behind the very first month of my (minimum of)12 in a year commitment. Thank you so much for posting such a grand idea!

  14. Debi says:

Wow! That is so great! I can’t wait to take time and read everyone’s sewlutions!

  15. Sorry to be a pain but i’m wondering would you have any guidance on how/ where to paste the button code? Thanks 🙂

  16. Amanda says:

I vote that you get a giant jar of olives and then make oodles of martinis to get through them all THEN pop the resewlutions into the jar 😉

  17. Shar says:

I’m sorry we gave you so much work! I think it’s going to be a lot of fun watching how everyone progresses. I wish I had a blog – the button is so cute.

  18. Liz says:

Loving Amanda’s idea above 🙂 Don’t care about the prize, just need to make some decent wearable (for more than just standing) pants!!

  19. Shelly says:

Ha ha! Maybe you could use the empty super sized coffee jar you’ll have after all that writing and trying to keep up with everyone. 😀 It’ll be fun to watch everyone’s progress.

  20. M says:

Now hopefully my name in a jar will keep me accountable to my goals for this year!

  21. Wow, 187!! Can’t wait to read up on everyone’s sewlutions and follow progress throughout the year.

I was feeling inspired this morning after reading a number of sewing blogs. I had to go to work so I didn’t get to yours til this evening, but I guess my blog post this morning is super apropo for the Sewlutions game.

  23. Hi, ive a question about the picture of the jar. I’ve written about my commitment in the jar at I used the WordPress app on iPad. I wanted to include the button but nothing happened when I copied the HTML code? So the best I could do was to save the picture and insert it to my post. I suspect that when correctly done clicking on it would link back to this post? Can anyone help me please?
