Happy New Year, guys! You won’t find a year review or any resolutions here, I’m afraid. I have no wish to glance back at 2014 and I’m not one for setting myself unnecessary deadlines or obligations. So I’m winging it for another year. Come along and enjoy the journey. Deal? Deal!
This outfit is entirely inspired by other bloggers. I’ve really admired how Scruffy Badger teams her Ultimate Trousers with Coco tops and, well, I copied her! Just after I bought my ponte roma, Tilly reminded us of her Sixties Stripe Cocoย and, well, I copied her!
Both of these fabrics were bought at Saeed Fabrics in Walthamstow. The ponte in particular is super-lovely and I’m tempted to go back for another two metres. Saeeds have extended their shop and they’re clearly upping their game in terms of stock. It’s well worth a visit.
The denim is lightweight as I didn’t think the Ultimate Trousers would stand stiff, thick denim. I gave my trousers a generous 2cm seam allowance on the outside as I wanted to embrace the cigarette trouser silhouette. With the denim’s tiny bit of stretch, this really wasn’t a problem. I used pink top stitching to hem the trousers – the perfect tiny detail.
Anย uber comfortable outfit to see in 2015. The sun is out and I’m off to enjoy it!
Ack!! I really really really love your top! The neckline is perfect with these stripes. Happy New Year!
And the shoes! Perfect!
Nothing wrong with a little ‘inspiration’ from others ๐ You’re really selling those Ultimate Trousers well too. If my first two options don’t work out, I’ll definitely be trying them myself. Looking good, enjoy the sunshine ๐
Scruffy Badger looked great and so do you!
Love the contrasting stitching – very ‘couture’!
Love this outift, and your willingness to throw in pink topstitching again! I always feel my topstitching just isn’t quite up to snuff to carry off a fabulous contrast color. But maybe I’ll try it yet! Looking forward to watching you wonderfully wing your way through 2015. ๐
Yes, let’s wing it! Fabulous outfit!
It is a winning combo for sure (although you seem to have mislaid your lobster pot ….;-) )
The stripes are very fetching!
You look great! (can I admit to being unreasonably excited to open the page and see a funnel necked coco whilst I’m sat here wearing my (plain turquoise ponte) funnel necked coco – SNAP)
Love the pink hem!
You make the cutest clothes and put them together so well. Great look. Love the pink topstitching. You Rock!
Beautiful.. Love love the top. Happy New year to you too!
Love this! So chic with the stripes.
Lovely! I agree Karen. No looking back for me either. Just making what I want to make when I want to make it and often re-using tried and tested patterns that I know will work. I just started my 2015 sewing with another Coco too! It’s at http://carolineparadigmdesign.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/warming-up-january-with-pink-coco.html
A very Happy New Year to you ๐
It’s not copying, it’s “homage”. ๐ Still loving those trousers and hankering after a trip to Walthamstow Market. Lovely outfit. Xx
Looks great! You’ve certainly picked two fabulously stylish ladies to emulate ๐
What a cute outfit, Karen! Love all your Ultimates. I just hopped on the pant-sewing train and am envious of others who have worked out their perfect fit. Happy New Year!
Great outfit! Happy New Year, lady!
Ah I love Saeeds Fabrics, they are so lovely in there.
Really lovely outfit – looks great on you!
Maria
Gorgeous! I love the trouser fabric.
I love the fabric you have used for this Coco! I can’t wait to make my first ๐
I love this top!!! Happy new year!
I’m getting ready to make the Ultimate trousers and will remember the trick with the bright topstitching – it looks wonderful (and so clever to match your shoes!). The Coco? Well you can’t beat a striped Coco IMHO!!
Love the top.
Adorable! I may have to copy your top with the strips, so cute!
Looking very chic Karen!
Nice outfit! Lucky you have the sunshine too!
Great silhouette!
Love the mod top! I’m inspired!
Looks great! That top would sell for $250 at Marimekko.
I haven’t cut my coco yet. I ordered the Ponte roma from Minerva so not long now. That is a a seriously wearable outfit. Jo x
I’ve been toying with the Coco and this has inspired me to go ahead and order the pattern. Lovely work! ๐
Itยดs a gorgeous outfit Karen. You look fabulous in that picture. I love the zigzag topstitching too! You’re inspiring me to copy you!
Winging it? Flying high!
It’s really cute! Great combination
