Or so the saying goes. My home has been full of flowers over recent weeks; I love a cheap bunch of tulips or daffodils. Plus, it’s that time of year to start replanting the annuals. How this makes my heart sing!
I thought I’d do a quick round-up of the floral prints that have struck my eye over recent bouts of Internet surfing. No affiliate links here, just knee jerk yowls of delight.
I’ve tried to go for the not-so-obvious as, to quote Miranda in The Devil Wears Prada: ‘Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.’
Cotton lawn is THE perfect fabric for summer dresses – I made a couple of Charlie Caftans last year in cotton lawn and they’ve been a delight to wear. And what about this glorious Echinacea In Tomato And Pink?
Flowers AND feathers? SOLD! In rayon/viscose? DOUBLE SOLD! Wouldn’t this Cotton and Steel fabric be the perfect cool make for summer? I think it would be perfectly twinned with the Cassiopee dress.
If you want to give your florals a bit of edge, throw serpents into the mix. I know this from my recent scuba skirt. Here’s the same approach in grey cotton lawn from Fabric Godmother. Grey can make your outfit a great transitional piece, too. I often layer my Liberty of London Charlie Caftan with tights and a cardigan.
And can we call the below from Cloth Spot a floral? I think so – just! It’s a viscose jersey, which is another highly breathable and comfie option. What would you make out of this?
Do you have your own recommendations for floral with edge?
Hi karen
You made me buy the pink/orange fabric! Hopefully the sun will follow! xx
Ha, ha – sorry, not sorry. Just call me your enabler. I’m very tempted by it myself…
I use the florals sparingly myself, but am so glad that the real flowers have come out! It’s a lovely time of year, and some of the fabrics are charming–
Ohh I love the snakes in the floral print! It would make a nice dress…
No snakes in my florals! I’d have nightmares!! The viscose jersey is a definite yes. Love design and color.
Snakes go away….get out of my head….don’t won’t you in my dreams tonight
While I sit in Alicante airport as our flight is delayed. You caused me to buy Echinacea fabric. A tomato and red kaftan dress will be perfect for a trip to India later in the year.
YES!!!
Now they have to fly a new crew out from Gatwick so I have now bought some of the feather fabric. Anxious as I also really like the jersey fabric !!
Oh my goodness! This is turning into an expensive flight.
I love the Echinacea fabric so much but as I am on the hunt for fabric for fabric hog V9253 it will just have to stay there. I am tempted though………. 🙂 Xx
